46RH adapted to fit a big block??

... . so I'm thinking... . if I have a 46RH (4wd version w/ mated 205)... and a big block 727... ... . and take 'em both apart... ... could the front case housing from the 727 be put in place of the front case housing from the 46RH??



If not, can the bellhousing-to-block bolt pattern on the 46RH be adapted to fit a big block??



Essentially I'm looking for a bolt-up option to get an overdrive 727 with a mated 205 bolted to the back of a 440... like for my '78 Ramcharger perhaps...



Now, the other option is to put my 6bt in my Ramcharger... but I have other plans for that little I-6 :-laf

If I remember correctly there are differences between the 727 and the OD series transmissions that will preclude you doing that. Rear bearing support, oil passages, VB to case matching are the items that struggle up thru the haze.



The 2 options I have come across to do this are:



1. Build or have built an adapter plate built to mate the 518/618 to the RB engine. Along the order of the plate used to mate the PowerGlide to the big block Dodge. To the best of my knowledge this plate is not readily avaialble and would need to be built.



2. Custom built bell housing for the RB engine that bolts on using the pump bolts as the fastening mechanism which would include hacking the bell housing off even with the pump mounting. This option is the easiest as the bell housings are available.



There is a thread in here on this very subject with links to manufacturers for both solutions. I have the same idea and project only into a Road Runner.

I was going to suggest option #2, it's like JA trans or something like that. I think they are out of Florida. They have ads in all of the mags, so it shouldn't be hard to find.
