pump, 5 clutch direct clutch, 6 pinion steel planets, heavier (thicker) sunshell, 6 clutch OD clutch, higher ratio kickdown band lever, design changes to neutral switch(now is shifter position sensor), internal design changes in valvebody, sealing ring added to stator support, corresponding change in converter for sealing ring, thrust washers changed, etc.

Upgraded mine with DTT @ 2078 miles. Have been smiling since. So has anyone that has driven it. :)

The 48re has about 40 internal mods over the 47re. the eight in 48re stands for 800. that is what kind of tourque that bad boy is desinged for, verses 700 in the 47 re. You should see the pics of the difference in the planetaries!

The 7 and 8 designate relative strength, not the torque rating. If the 47RE was good for 700 pound-feet, the 48RE wouldn't be needed, and the previous generation trucks wouldn't have been capped at 460 lb-ft with the 47RE. And, The V6 4x2s had the 42RE - they certainly exceeded 200 pound-feet.

Thats what a dealer transmission tech told me in Topeka, KS. I also had a tech in Pueblo tell me the same thing. Maybe thats what chrysler trains their people to tell the public wether it is true or not. All trannies have a designed tourque rating that is a certain percentage more than the stock engine can produce. You may be right and the tourque rating is just what they want me to THINK.
