While driving in downtown Seattle today during last minute Christmas shoppers (Foot traffic) I was stuck @ intersection after intersection & my trans started heating up. I hit a high temp of 220 degrees! From that minute on I started putting it into neutral & after about 20 minutes of circling & putting it into neutral at every chance I got it down to about 180-190 degrees. Is this normal? At what temp am I damaging my Auto Trans?

220 in the city. :--) The highest I ever got my stock trans was 230. And that was up a STEEP dirt road in first gear, ( 10 mph ), for about ten miles WITH a 6000 pound trailer. With my modified trans, (see sig), I have not seen higher than 180. I would keep my eye on it.
