Last week, I did an auto transmission (47RE) fluid and filter change on my truck. I took the time to adjust the bands at this time, following the procedure describe in the manual. Everything is OK at I like the way the transmission is working.

I know front band having a relation with kick-down and rear band is for "low-reverse". In a few words, what is the fonction of each band (adjusting screw), one versus the other?

Does the front band refers only to kick-down or have another fonction?

Thanks,

Denis

The front band is second gear. If the band would, for example break, you will not have 2nd gear.

The rear band is for reverse and Manual 1st. In drive, the rear band will not apply. If this band breaks enery thing will work except reverse. Even manual 1st because the sprag still holds.

Auto Trans are fun!

Fox, thanks for the info.

Also, I found this on the dodgeram.org web site:

"The front band controls the 2nd gear cluster. The rear band controls the 3rd gear cluster and reverse. For a 2-3 shift, the transmission shifts back to 1st gear with the front band while the rear band engages 3rd gear. If the front band does not release the 2nd gear clutches before the third gear clutches engage, the transmission binds, which shortens the life of the transmission clutches. If the front band releases too early in the shift, the engine will overspeed (sounds and feels like a slip) during the 2-3 shift. "
