Should the 47RE on my 2001 2500 have its bands adjusted? If so what does that do. I have 138,000 miles and as second owner I can't be sure the 47 is original. [I am pulling 12,ooo pounds and have a double pan. ] PapaTom

It would be a good idea to change the fluids with that many miles and if you just got it. That way you can see whats in you pan. It wouldnt hurt to adjust them while your in there either.

I would.

Yes.

Per the factory service manual, the transmission fluid should be drained, the filter replaced, and the bands adjusted every 30,000 miles under normal operating conditions. Under severe operating conditions such as trailer towing or high speed driving in hot weather, the interval is every 15,000 miles.

If so what does that do.
It helps the transmission continue to shift properly as material wears from bands. Severely neglected band adjustment can result in delayed shifts or even complete lack of shifting.

John L.
