Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 47RE conversion?

How difficult is it to change a 2wd 47RE into a 4WD trans?

I am thinking of doing the same,been told that the output shafts and overdrive housings from a 518(46re) are the same.

The overdrive clutch count does differ.

it is an easy swap, if you have an overdrive section from a 4x4 47re 96 and up. 94 and 95 has a 47rh which has a governor in ihe overdrive housing and wont work unless you remove it. you will also have to measure the assembled height of the overdrive clutch pack and may need a different thickness shim on the overdrive apply piston. i have a chart somewhere with the measurements and the part numbers for the shims. or you could use the shim from the 4x4 donor if its available.
