I have a 2003 SO 250hp

The window sticker says 48re

The VIN # says 47re

The code in glove box says 48re

So the question is how can I tell for sure?

Maybe a stamping on the case or some other way to tell?

As I understood the 48re was to be a mid model year (2003) introduction. You may have the 47re but I think you'll have to do so more research to determine which one you have:confused:

How does the VIN indicate which transmission? I know it has an engine digit but had no idea it had a transmission digit.

Look at the build date on the driver's door data tag. If it's after mid-March, 2003 then it's a 48re. Prior to that it could be either. The data tag in the glovebox is the best indication that I've found, and if the window sticker says 48re then it's a slam dunk.

Look at the drivers side of the trans where the shift linkage hooks up. If there is a large black top "thing" along the side of the trans it is a 48re. If you look at what type of plug in is one the trans, driver side, flat is 48, round is 47. Sorry I cant be more specific but it's been a couple of years since I swapped out transmissions in my 97 from 47 to 48 re.
