My 97 is what can best be described as slamming into gear. When you put the selecter into gear the is not much delay then transmission seems to slam into gear. When I bought the truck it seemed ok Truck has 104k and all original. Fliuds changed at regular intervals. Some light towing before I owned the truck, nothing major. The idle on the truck is around 750- 800 rpm. As I recall thats about right. The transmission shifts smoothly thru all gears. I have had several auto's before and none of them have done this before. Just wondering. Thanks Brian

Slamming as you engage into drive or reverse (not while shifting at speed from what you indicated)…I would be suspicious of slop in the driveline that gets rapidly taken up with engagement—do a check of u-joints. That brings up question - is the slam the same in 2WD (rear shaft loading) AND 4WD (both shafts loading - one with tight u-joints??)

Check the lug nuts too. I had a truck doing the same thing and tore the transfer case apart looking for a loose chain or something. I pulled the left rear hubcap for something unrelated and the holes were over an inch long. Lucky I didn't kill me or somebody else.
