ATS,,???? need 47re and the TripleLok converter, trans is not downshifting properly and when upshifting I feel a vibration I think its the converter, Egt's went up when this started, converter seems to not unlock(or no downshift on trans. ) and boggs down engine (egt's),

Trans temp was way up, around 200 on my gauge, normal for my gauge is around 125. it's a westech gauge.

I was towing around 9,000 pound over a few east coast mountains with elevations around 1,000 to 2,800 feet above sea level.

I did make It back from my trip, I manually put it into 2 gear and kept it around 40 mph to pull the hills and I did unhook my Edge E-Z box.

So now Let the God's of TDR Speak, and inform me!!!!

Assuming I can afford it, I'm looking for the best set-up and I'm capable of changing the trans.

Time now to put "all" the added HP that I added awhile back to the ground:D

Honestly, while many of us are capable of doing the mechanical work of a 47RE swapout, the electricals and the connections are not that simple to trouble-shoot in case of a screw-up. Some guys here have done it and gotten it right, however if you don't do it exactly perfect the first time, the trans won't work right, or will even damage itself, and you'll need some pretty specialized diagnostic equipment to figure out what went wrong. This point will come after a couple of days of severe physical and mental stress, and at that point, to have the trans not work right has driven more than one TDR member to the edge of sanity! Several guys have posted here trying to figure out what went wrong after installing their own trannys. Not that it can't be done, but just be fore-warned.

Now having said that, I will also say if you have the guts and determination to try it, GO FOR IT!! A person can do just about anything they want to, but don't blame the Transmission Co. if the installation doesn't go right.

Another option is this: Since you are contemplating going with ATS (The Best IMO), call them and ask them for the name of the nearest affiliated shop. Then you do the install and then take it directly to them to test your electricals and your set-up. They should be able to do that for a minimal charge. But don't drive it for a week with things malfunctioning due to some messed-up connections, and then expect the Trans Company to cover the damage.

Go with what RR said, yes it's just a auto trany swap, but it's also much more then that. The couple of hundred dollars you might have saved really isn't worth the time and aggravation. I would go with the ATS trany myself, just buy one of there transmissions that has everything already done, it's faster, complete, and done right. They go for around 2 grand. Makes the swap a simple one day affair, and it's cheaper then buying the parts and having someone else install them. The Commander is a great addition to any truck, but the wiring has to be right, I have never had a problem with wiring anything, but I did pref err to have mine installed. You are in West Virginia, that's not that far from Indianapolis, and TST's shop. They sell and install ATS components, they did mine, and they do very good work, I would recommend them. Figure a install on a 4x4 to run around 600. 00.

I have not regretted buying my ATS once, they sell a great package. There seems to be times when certain things are done by trained and experienced technicians, I think this is one of them.

The Trans seems to upshift somewhat "ok" but still not like normal

when running down the road, give it some peddle and it loads the motor and egt's go up, and trans doesn't downshift, some times I think the converter is unlocking and locking but something is slipping, it's not a secure feeling, so I've been driving it very easy and keeping a check on the egt's. On the plus side I've got time to check-out the aftermarket Trans suppliers so I don't have to be in a rush.

Thanks everyone for your input and the PM's, When it comes to "maybe" changing this out myself, I'll just say that I'm not perfect(just ask wife) but I'm educated in Electronics, Computers and electrical plus for several years wrenched on NHRA class record holder SS/AA Hemi.
