Anybody out there with this combination? Have you had any problems and solutions to fix lock-up to come on with out having to push the O/D botton on and off. Had this installed in Feb. and my transmission rebuilt at DTT's shop,89% TC and VB . At the time there was not any fix for these transmission PCM's to go in to lock-up in third gear unless you push the O/D botton to give the Smart Controller a signal. I have also had my transmission go into limp mode when using both the Pac-Brake and the Smart controller together. Had to shut off the truck and restart to get the PCM to clear and go back to normal. Might be a lot of fun when towing!

I just got my DTT transmission installed at Diesel Dynamics and wanted the smart controller but they couldn't get it to work right.

I think they figured there were not enough electronics to make it work right.

I need to go back to DD because mine doesn't shift to OD unless I let up on the go pedal to make it shift, or is that just a characteristic off the DTT transmission?

I have this combination in my 01 and do not have any problems. If for some reason the TC isn't locked up I just give it a little gas then back off and it locks up. Must be the difference in the PCM from your year to mine. Definitely never had it go into limp mode the way you describe

I didn't think the RH had a limp mode. I would recommend calling DTT and asking them, they would know more about their product than anyone else.

I don't run the smart controler, I just use a switch to manually unlock the converter. Pulled with it today after adding the governer spring kit. With the great fluid coupling, it's almost like having a six speed without a clutch... . 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd lock up, od, and finally od lock up. I have always prefered to control the shifting with the shift lever and the od on/off button whenever I'm pulling.

I did call and talk to Bill he said it wasn't the transmission are the smart controller causing the problem ,told me I should check fuses under hood . I did and they are OK. When I shut off the truck and start again it clears the PCM and all is OK. When the transmission goes to limp mode it slips and I loose my Tac. and the charge to my alternator. I understand that the PCM in my year "95" controls those. But I am afraid of using it when towing. Could get ugly when going down are up!

it sounds like your mopar computer is loosing either a power or ground connection or maybee a short to ground in the wiring for the "smart controller"

DTT Smart Controller

Ok. Problem is gone! Bill told me to come up and they would get the electronic guys together and figure it out, just never got time to get up there so I did not use the Smart Controller untill I was ready for my 25,000 mile filter change and figured I would have them look at it then. But I started having problems with my TPS unlocking, found on a search to spray with lps and it fixed the TPS so I tried the Smart Controller again and it Works fine now!Must have been some electrical noise from the TPS causing noise! Thanks to all who responded!

I had the same problem with a 96 recently. (lock up would turn off with the smart controller on)

My esteemed transmission friend James Northum (inarush76@aol.com) diagnosed and solved the problem.

Maybe he will chime in, since it was his fix. . :)

Another good reason to allow such a pro to repair /rebuild your auto transmission. :)
