Anyone have directions written up on how to R&R a busted input shaft?

Also, is there anything else I should inspect for damage caused by the broken shaft?

pretty easy really, just make sure you dont hurt the lip seals on the pistons going back together. An extra pair of hands is really handy doing this. Just pull it apart and put it back together the same way. Takes about 20 minutes.

He's right, it isn't to bad. Watch the orientation of the washers between the input and intermediate shaft. There are 2. If you get them switched around the transmission will work... ... for a while but it will have low pressures and burn itself down.

What to look for... . basically anything that the shaft could contact, inspect it.

I've seen the input shafts break 2 ways. One is the splines from the shaft to the drum walk up onto eachother splitting the drum and stripping the splines. The other can get ugly... actually breaking the shaft. If that happens you'll be sending your converter out to get cut open.

Depending on HOW the shaft broke... You could be needing a front pump, converter, etc.

I'll see if I can find some pictures for you so you have something to follow.

Wow. Not sure yet how this broke... Was pulling into a parking spot. . and it just stopped moving. No forward, no reverse, but I do have park.

No change in RPM or any noise when going from drive to reverse.

What can be wrong inside the TC? How can I tell if the pump is bad?

Thanks!

I would say it's the "easy" fix, by your desription. The only way to know for sure what broke is to take it appart.

A gentleman in my area just broke his. He was rolling into it to get onto the freeway. When the converter locked up it popped.

I don't have pictures of the "easy" break.

Here are pictures of the Bad one. Not all of them that break like this take the pump. But I've been told by multiple people that when they break like this, the tip of the input is stuck in the converter. For whatever reason, you can't get it out. That's why they have to cut the converter appart... or just replace it.

PS, I noticed you have an RH, this picture it out of an 01 RE, so things may be slightly different.

Well, I thought I would come back and post what I found!

Was a very easy job. Worst part was getting that dang park rod in and out when removing the VB.

Here is what I found.

Looks like it cracked and allowed the input shaft to spin inside! No real damage to any other part inside. . Looked real clean.

Yup! That's the "easy" break.

Ya know the worst part is... I was going to take pictures of the one that I just put the billet input shaft in... Kind of a step by step thing because of this thread... and I forgot! Sorry guys!
