I'm giving serious consideration to going automatic in the next truck... might be able to live w/ a club cab long bed... that would allow me to buy an earlier truck and save some money that can be wrapped up in mods...

I like the hydro brakes on the 97+, but that can easily be added...

the injection pump would be upgraded, so no worries on 160 vs 180

main question is will a 47RH hold me back any vs a 47RE? being able to save some money on a 94-95 would be nice

thanks,

Forrest

I don't know what you mean by "hold me back". The main difference between the transmissions is the governor. This means that smart controller boxes won't work on the 47RH because it has a mechanical governor except for OD and TCC lockup. Other than that and some minor differences it is the same transmission. Both types must be upgraded to deal with Cummins power. The weak points in each transmission can be fixed by upgrades.

I believe DTT has some made occasionally. The stock 47RH output is much stronger than the stock 47RE output. If you're only putting 700 hp to it, the stocker might be okay...

Word is the stock RH shaft is pretty stout compared to the RE and DTT and suncoast can get you HD output shafts as said above. But I'd go with a RE just because of the larger market for parts.

interesting...

so theoreticly, an RH w/ billet shafts would be stronger than an RE?

I don't want to be held back, period... I don't want to say I'm shooting for some fantasy HP number, but I really am :p as much power as possible and still drive around like normal... if it's 800, it's 800, if it's 900, it's 900... if it's more, it's more ;) I just want as much as possible :D

Call Joe at suncoast. . He said he'd never seen an RH break an output shaft drag racing. . I told him I'd probably be first. . He said it's a lot stronger than the RE, and considers it a waist of money to try and buy one. .

I just bought a 47RH with Billet Input and Intermediate. Stock output shaft. Not going to be running as much power as you Forrest, but I think it will hold.

Nother post from someone who talked w/ Joe @ Suncoast.

He said he didn't see a problem with me wanting to launch at 20psi + in 4wd. I told him I was shooting for 700hp++++.

Joe also said he has never SEEN an output break. He's heard of one (the one from pulling) but never has had it in his hands to look at.

Suncoast is the ONLY transmission company that didn't flinch hard when I mentioned wanting to build a RH for racing.

Not to start a transmission war but Georends did not flinch when I talked to them. Of course I am not running the big HP you are.
