Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) To rebuild or not ?

well first off, let me say the engine and trans have been sitting for about 3 years prior to my buying the truck. I bought the truck as a donor for my conversion, and right now its running in my Chevy, BUT the transmission feels like its slipping all the time. It doesnt feel like its getting full line pressure or something, it doesnt jerk (for lack of a better term) into gear like an auto usually does, and when I step on the peddle sometimes it doesnt move until I reach about 1700rpm and its very slow, its very hard to make it up a hill or over an uneven surface without revving it up too high. It is full of good, new fluid so what am I looking at? where do i start?

BTW when I got on the road it shifted fine (it seemed) from 1-2 but its still very slow to take off and cant gain any real speed .

The 47rh has a cable attached to the throttle on the injector pump. As you increase throttle this cable increases line pressure inside the transmission. If this cable is disconnected or misadjusted, you will destroy the clutches before too long. Is this cable installed properly? Was the engine transmission combo from the same truck or was the engine from one truck and the transmission from another? I'm thinking it's also possible that you may have a gas engine torque converter.

matched engine and trans. from the same truck, the cable is disconnected from the throttle lever but I put a manual cable on it (throttle lever from lawnmower i know i know... ) The PO took the cable off and put it on his other truck I need another one. Even with the lever in the idle position, it still doesnt feel like its getting into gear. I personally think it is something more than that cable, that is the first thing that came to mind but it would just be my luck that the trans. would need a full rebuild... .
