Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 47rh wont shift

Hey guys im in dier need of help... i have 95 dodge cummins with p. o. s 47rh auto trannny, just recently had id completely rebuilt and it wont shift past 2nd gear. Ive done pressure test and pressure is good, new valve body, new governer, not sure where else to look. Any advise would be much appreciated

I looked in my 96 service manual did find symptoms close to your but not exactly.

Who did the rebuild? I would suggest getting back with them.

Don't want to jinx myself, but my 47 is 15 years old with 170,000 on it. Guess I'm very lucky.



It has had shifting issues before, always related to low fluid. I have had to adjust bands when the shifting feels sloppy, but I would have to say check the fluids carefully. My external lines would develop leaks and the next thing you know, it was very low again and shifting poorly.



Of course, it could have something to do with the rebuild as well, might want to mention this to the rebuild guy.

You need to do a complete pressure test.

Do you have a service manual? It explains how.
