Funny stuck story

TT Shopping - first time

Hi, I want to buy a 46 ft trailer enclosed. Frame is steel and body is mainly aluminum. It will have living quarters and rear space will have a lift with 2 3000 pounds cars. Now I am not good at math but the trailer once full will weight about 14000 to 16000. Now is it possible for the new 2003 HD 6 speed to tow it?

What are really the limits of towing. Trailer will be 10'7 high in front 13'2 high back due to a 45 degree raise in the middle.

Any comments and word of advise and warning would be apreciated

paesan, Talk to Bill Kondolay, Bill has just about the same size trailer that he uses for this race car.

Bills trailer I believe is 49' long

Bill is a great guy and a wealth of information.

Pulling it wont be a problem. . stopping it WILL be a problem! You MUST have an exhaust brake or you'll get in trouble someday... Also, be careful with GVW's... the combined GVW of the truck + trailer will be beyond 26k, and you'll need a CDL to drive in some states (like the humorless Ohio).

I Have towed 25,000 to 30,000 alot with mine. My recommendation is go with vacuum over hydraulic brakes on the trailer, they are far superior for stopping power and they don't give near as much trouble.

BC,

I'm sure his trailer will have brakes, which will be sufficient (sp?). He also stated the loaded trailer would weight 16,000#'s max, + the 8,000# truck (at best) total= 24,000#'s, under the 13 ton rule. In any case, wouldn't matter if he's over the Gross Combination Vehicle Weight, of 21,500#'s.

Thank you so much for your replys. From what I can understand is that the problem is not if it will pull it but if it will be legal.

Now I went and look at the 2003 specs.

For the sake of argument I will put exactly what my truck will be.

3500 4x4 long bed quad cab 6 manual 3. 73

GVWR 12500 Estimated Curb Weight with 5. 9 HO is 7485

Estimated Payload 5020

Now for the towing the GCRW is 21,000 if I went 4. 10 it would have been 23,000

That means that a trailer will have to weight 13,515 or with 4. 10 15,515 to be legal.

Hope this is not confusing.

Again thank you for all your input it has been of great help
