ok

have 48RE - put in schaeffers 204 syn blend for the record at 33,000+ . . told someone its shifts alot smoother - still seems to have the 3/overdrive hard shift/etc... was told the smoother shift is NOT good and means the thing is slipping. .

the RPM's don't race up, the tires seem to grab. . But you know now that it's been a little while I can't really remember just know the old stuff acted once I have gotten used to the new ATF. . The question is anyone put AMSOIL/other in a 48RE and it responded by smoother shifting... this can't be the thing slipping?? (note: I may change to AMSOIL just in the trans just because it is full syn and not a blend and ATF-4 is full syn/etc... )

ps: I am not trying to flame the one that told me this but he does know the dodge trans and is is on another webpage and yes he is in the know!

Well, I'd have to say that if it shifts really smooth one of two things is happening. Either the clutches are engaing slowly and slipping a bit so you don't notice them as much, or your clutches are engaging at a normal rate and the tq converter is so loose (inefficient) that the conveter absorbs the shock. Neither is a good senario. The first because slippage means wear and heat, the second beacause that inefficient converter is killing you milage and power transfer. This why with a stock trans I tell my customers to drive in tow/haul when they have added boxes and downloaders and such. It shifts firmer and there is less slippage.

A quality Valve Body and Tq Converter would be a very good thing for you.

I don't really know anymore... Guess I need to do a few things like drive another 2004. 5 48RE and maybe have that person drive mine and we can see. . also - don't know who to trust if I was to go to a dealer/******* and them take it a spin... After driving and "over analyzing" it - it does seem to still have the sound/feel going from 3 to overdrive - and still seems to have the feel in first to 2nd. . Now it feels different depending if I have a light foot or heavy foot, or if I am on falt ground, or going up ramps to the hightway. .

I just don't know anymore. .

I don't think there is a quality diesel shop in San Antonio that is real well versed in the dodge and 48RE trans like DTT or ATS. . I would take thier word without question. .
