03, 305hp, 4x4. Truck seems to drive better cold, after warm up it hangs in first gear up to about 40km/h, then will shift to second and sometimes comes right back to first (little shuttle shifting)

When it gets to third gear it seems fine going to fourth.

Fluid seems clean, not burnt, and at good level

We cleaned all 3 electrical connectors going to trans on drivers side

There are no codes comming up

After we cleaned the connectors the truck seemed alot better, but after warming up again started acting up again

We are pulling our hair out, any ideas

335,000km sorry forgot to post that important piece.

Also forgot to mention that I have been a member for years and did search before posting. But couldn't find the exact simptoms, especially the getting worse after comming up to operating temp. Some other guys were having 3-4 shifting issues. My truck (07) does have the slow speed 1-2 shuttle issues, but my best friends (03) 1-2 shuttle issues happen at mich higher speed/rpm

Thanx for the quick reply SWithrow, we will check into that

Any other ideas??

Ditto on adjusting the bands... especially the front band which is accessible from outside the transmission and doesn't require dropping the pan. Do you have a factory service manual for the procedure? It's critical you DO NOT over-torque the band adjusting screw or you'll bend / break the apply lever ins tide the transmission.

Also, you may want to go ahead and replace the transmission output shaft speed sensor located in the tail housing. It's an inexpensive part that should be available at your local auto parts store. It's used by the PCM to control shift points and sometimes goes bad.

After doing those please let us know what happened.

FRONT BAND
The front (kick down) band adjusting screw is located on the left side of the transmission case
above the manual valve and throttle valve levers.
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Loosen band adjusting screw locknut. Then back locknut off 3-5 turns. Be sure adjusting screw turns freely in case. Apply lubricant to screw threads if necessary.
3. Tighten band adjusting screw to 8 N. m (72 in. lbs. ) torque with Inch Pound Torque Wrench, a 3-in. extension and an appropriate Torx socket.
4. Back off front band adjusting screw 1-3/4 turns.
5. Hold adjuster screw in position and tighten locknut to 41 N. m (30 ft. lbs. ) torque.

REAR BAND
The transmission oil pan must be removed for access to the rear band adjusting screw.
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Remove transmission oil pan and drain fluid.
3. Loosen band adjusting screw locknut 5-6 turns. Be sure adjusting screw turns freely in lever.
4. Tighten adjusting screw to 8 N. m (72 in. lbs. ) torque
5. Back off adjusting screw 3 turns.
6. Hold adjusting screw in place and tighten locknut to 34 N. m (25 ft. lbs. ) torque.
7. Position new gasket on oil pan and install pan on transmission. Tighten pan bolts to 17 N. m (13 ft. lbs. ) torque. <!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________

I have run into several situations lately where I need to torque something that won't allow me to use a socked such as holding this adjusting screw while I torque the locknut. I just snug with a end wrench and then do the final torque with the torque wrench and eyeball the set screw when done to see it it has moved.

Sometimes I get my best information when I ask stupid questions so here goes. What do you guys use to to these things including tubing connectors etc.

You could have a situation where the intermediate servo is leaking, which would become more pronounced as the transmission gets hot.

Crowsfoot instead of a socket.
