New 5er but no bed clearance

I'd guess that it would to a small degree. Since there would be less slip and more power to the drive-train. It might take a thousand years to get a return on your investment though :)

I haven't seen too much of a difference mileage wise with my Suncoast transmission but I can tell you that it sure is nice to drive. The shifts feel firm and I know I'm not slipping anything :D And that's a good feeling.

I've got a full DTT rebuilt 47re trans with a 48re valve body, lots of money, but, lots and lots of fun, you'd be amazed at what an aftermarket trans will do for your truck. I also put on some traction bars on Saturday, what a difference. I thought my trans was the only thing slipping 6 months ago, those axles move the leaf springs around too, now I'm really putting the power to the pavement.

From what I've read, the 48re is a good trans until you start bombing your engine. After you make more horses you'll notice things slipping and the trans getting hotter. Mileage improvements will not be noticable because you'll be on the throttle more, and grinning! If you need to justify a new trans for yourself, just think more in terms a reliability.

All you guys pulling heavy loads (14k+). with the 48re How often do you change the trans fluid and do you change the filter at every change? I'm approching 20k and most of it is towing. . thanks Bill

More aggressively pitched stators with lower stalls allow better off the line acceleration, requiring less throttle to move the beasts down the road.

Yup she'll drink less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mac

BHanks,

After rebuild DTT recommends 12k between fluid changes, and a filter change, and a band adjustment. Not hard to do either.

Changing the fluids and filter would be no problem but how hard is it to adjust the bands once the pan is off? Thanks

I tow just about 14k every weekend ,14300 to be exact, change oil in transmission every 30k always looks great nothing on the filter. :D :D

thanks champsps, that makes me feel better. I am approching 20k miles and thought that I had better change it since 90% of the milage is towing. .

Trip this weekend

Just made a trip from central NC to BlueRidge Parkway up grade on 226 and 221. One 36 footer 5er in tow with 2005 GM DuraMax dooly and other 36 footer 5er with 2003 DuraMax dooly and my 2004. 5 RAM CTD. They could not stay with me but they were towing 4k more. I rode in the new one and I will blast to the world the allison transmission of far superior to my 48re. What a convoy...
