hey there, been searching for awhile it seems this keeps popping up either someone has a hunt or the od issue lucky me i got both. and this will be a bit long.
my trans, only once in awhile, it happens when towing or not, I do not tow super heavy. i will have a hunt between 2-3rd and other times it will lose OD, the trans light comes on and the OD light comes on and blinks. when it does happen I get it scanned and there are never any codes. I dropped the pan, no metal. it had happened before on a trip a few years ago, I completely lost OD , trans light came on, OD light came and blinked and stayed on. took it to a dodge dealer for repair, I was in a jam. so they replace just about everything, selinoides, pressure trans ducer, governor. and after that no problems till a few weeks ago. the dealer did not nail to which part went. i am thinking of going the selinoid upgrade first. any ideas would be appericated. thanks.....

Those symptoms usually indicate a problem in the trans control harness that attaches to the VB. The lights flickering on and off indicate and electrical issues somewhere.

Just thought I would through this out there....would you lose overdrive if the transmission temperatures exceed some threshold value?

Yes it will. A short in either the internal or external trans control harness will institue a save mode and drop OD. A pressure transducer malfunctioning will do the same thing. An malfunction in the TCM will cause the same symptoms.
