Greetings- I need my 2007 48RE rebuilt by a reputable Transmission specialist. I have been eyeballing Precision Transmission in Amarillo Texas, 1400 miles from my home. They seem to know what they are doing after watching their work on Youtube. The problem is their phone does not work and they will not answer a letter I sent requesting an appointment. Does anyone know of a REPUTABLE Transmission shop specializing in rebuilding the 48RE? I frequently tow a 14K travel trailer and need a solid, no-drama trouble-free rebuild. Any shop within 1000 miles of the California Central Vally would be appreciated. Thank you

Always a good vendor of quality parts Goerend has a list of installers.

TX is a long way for a Trans rebuild.

I appreciate the common sense approach Precision has on their videos, seems like a quality shop.

Check out the attached link and see if you have something local to you. But as always do some research and ask some questions to make sure you will be pleased with the outcome and driving of any built unit.

Be happy if you find someone that can do it right away, I was in that situation 2 months ago and it was almost impossible find SOMEONE to work on a transmission. Everyone seemed to be fully booked for weeks to come AND lacking parts to do a rebuild. M9st places I've written an email didn't even respond at all.

Thanks, everyone for the feedback, very much appreciated. I have been driving for 53 years and have heard countless horror stories from family and friends of HACK JOB transmission rebuilds. I just want my 48RE done right. I will take a gander at the Gorends option.

My rebuild was in March 2017. I used a Goerend rebuild kit, 3 disk converter, valve body, one piece billet input shaft, and several misc. internals. Rebuild was done after a TC sprag failed in my factory torque converter. Transmission friction plates and components were still good, but I wanted it all done at once. I got a tech working for a dealership who was known for his transmission expertise to do the work, and it has been nearly flawless all this time. Sadly for me, this gentleman retired a few years ago.

I set it up for heavy towing, but have not done much. Only issue has been a very infrequent hard shift from 2-3 under light throttle. It never happens under moderate acceleration (when pressures are where they should be).

Overall, very pleased with the Goerend components and valve body. Recommended!

The trick is getting someone who knows what they are doing and will take the time to do it right. That’s much easier said than done.

I know this is an old thread, but if anyone is near Sacramento, ATO Performance Transmission is top notch!

They have a vast history of race cars and rock crawlers... but since everybody with one of those toys has a diesel truck they've become experts at those as well.
