I was looking at the DTT website and they sell upgraded valve bodies for the 48RE for around $450(i think).

If im not comfortable doing the dunrite transbuddy(requires drilling?) and I have someone install it its probly gonna cost me around $500 w/installl(just guessing here)

Now the DTT towing or racing valve body is just a remove and replace right?... that shouldnt be to hard since there are no springs or pins or whatchamacallits i have to remove.

From a very limited mechanical ability point would it be more cost effective and advantagous to do the DTT over the dunrite Reference the above said?

Jake..... good thread by the way...

Call DTT

May I suggest that tomorow you call DTT and talk with Bill, Stephen or any of the good people there and they will tell you exactly what is involved... . Man now I am wishing I had my new trnas already.....

Thanks for all the input. I have had really good luck with my last two suncoast transmissions. I just want to do a Suncoast triple disc and a shift kit to keep the cost down. Replacement valvebodies are over $400. I have a shop that will install the shift kit and converter with a worse case price of $350. This is my toy hauler that pulls my quick truck. My last daily driver was a dmax that ran 13's, so I'd just like to get this one where that one was. Thanks again for the helpful answers. .

That a good price, my shops all want $400 for the TC and another $100 for the valve body install. While the transminission out,Several major transmission vendors all recommend installing the cast second gear strd while the transmission is out Several major transmission vendors all recomend itto me with their VB's if your going to raise the pressures, as it a pull the transmission to install. Simple install with the transmission out of the truck. In another $75 dollar but in cheap insurance.

T&C has lost a fair amount of Business to the Local Trans shops the are telling Owners that( You Don"t need to Do all that). they are NOT Performance shops, they Have no idea what-so-ever of the incredible amounts of HP/QT these engines can produce,They also claim their hardware is the same quality as ATS,DTT, and others this is simply not the Truth. Many become victim's of this "We can do the same for cheaper". This Principle does not apply,Transmissions are no place to cut cost.

Find a shop the deals with upgraded component's and Hardware that is a Dealer of the well known Manufactures.

The trans shop that offered to do the install has been in business for over 20 years and built me personally transmissions for everything from gas drag cars, stock diesel, and full suncoast racing diesel rebuilds with everything. A cheap install doesn't always mean a cheap job done. I'm sure on most instances this doesn't stand true. It's a family business that is excellent at what they do. As far as the transmission not being a place to save money, I understand that thought, and agree. The shift kit and Suncoast triple disc should be enough for my daily driver needs. We'll see. .

Lockup is the ticket

Reb B. ,

Ive been running my 05 on occasion at the track and I can barely hit 15. 0. My problem is that my transmission holds 3rd to long and when it finally upshifts its to late. I trap about 89 mph with a 2. 2 60'.

Im not sure what my transmission is... 47re or 48re or what.

My mods are quad race box, strait pipe with aero turbine, afe intake.

Should i upgrade to a better torque converter and if so with this help my 1/4 mile time trap and shifts?

Any tips would be grateful... ... I gotta beat my buddies 6. 0 powerpuke, which is in the mid 14's.

thanks..... Jake

The shift kit will help, but that delay is because your not getting lockup and there are several nice units out there. I use the Commander by ATS and that takes all the delay out of the shift. Your 3rd to OD will be just like 1st to 2nd ,... just WAM and it's over and your rockin'. That delay is costing you bigtime in the 1/4 mile. Go to the ATS site and check it out. :D

To be honest, I didn't even ask Joe about it. I just found out the trans shop I'm using for installation carries Transgo products. I don't know what Joe uses for his valve bodies. When he did the transmission in my dmax, he used a transgo shift kit in the valvebody. I'll ask him tomorrow.

As an update, I ended up purchasing a Suncoast triple disc, and a Transbuddy kit. The only problem was that no one actually makes a shift kit for a 2005 yet. Transgo said yes, then said it was for a gas truck. Mike at Hot Rod Diesel (MDW) has been more than helpful in trying to figure out how to make it work. We're gonna try it, and see if it all works out well. I'll post results after I get it installed next friday.

So what year is the transbuddy for? I thought the 05 VB was different than an 04.

They said they just figured out the problem with the shifts on the 05 VB within the last week. I hope it works out well. .

i just got an ats 5 star torque converter (upgrade from the triplelok - overkill X5) and am going with the dunrite transbuddy vb - i believe the two best products in their respective product lines.

install next week

Check out this website. www.htstransmissions.com The owner of the shop has an 05 that he has been working on the VB and racing it last summer and fall. He is running a Suncoast tripplelock he hasn't done anything inside the trans yet beside the VB and is running in the low 13's without the torque locker , which would put it solidly into the 12's

I just called HTS to see if they have a shift kit, or a VB only. . Sure enough, they do have the shift kit for you to install in your own valvebody for $70. The Transbuddy I've ordered is hopefully going to work. . I'll let ya know if it does or not. .
