48RE shifter problem

The last couple days I've been experiencing problems getting the shifter into park. The first time I had put it into park and started to exit the truck when it popped into reverse and started blowing the horn. The next time I had to try several times before it went in. The indicator also seemed off.

I suspect a linkage issue but can anyone point to where I should start checking?

It was due for an oil change so took it in to a dealer in Stuttgart, AR. near where I'm visiting family. They inspected and ultimately found nothing amiss beyond the cable being a bit loose. They adjusted it and sent me home. I hope that was all that was wrong. Time and use will tell. I'm a long way from home.
