OBD 2 protocol change?

I now have 3300 mile on the Ghost Rider.

When accelerating WOT though the gears, 1st shifts into 2nd at 3100-3200 RPM, 2nd shifts into 3rd at 3100 to 3200 RPM, (the next shift is where my problem is) 3rd shifts into 4th at 2500 RPM! (no slipage) This is at WOT! If I hold it manually, and manually shift, the transmisson slips between 3rd and 4th.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I went to the dealer today and he said that he has no way to change the shift points on the transmission. Is there a way to change these shift points?

Also while driving normally, it locks up in OD at 50 mph, bringing the rpm down to between 1300 & 1400 RPM. I feel this is much too low. Dealer again said that he has now way to adjust the lockup. Can this be adjusted?

That's interesting Big Bob.

There was a thread on here before about shifting into OD early and the suggestion was to just leave OD off unless you are on the highway. It's the darn programming trying to maximize mileage. I know being a manual transmission guy the auto is going to take some getting used to, and I've never been a fan of an automatic because they never shift to my pleasing.

The 2500rpm shift into OD is odd though

I wonder if Bill Kondolay would have any ideas?

Vaughn,

I do leave the overdrive off while driving around town. My concern is that the shift from 3rd to 4th at 2500 RPM. I don't even get a chance to get into maximum HP in 3rd gear.

By the way, this is a 4 speed transmission plus overdrive for a total of 5 forward gears.

5-speed?? Really? Are you sure it's just not 4 speeds and the lockup event makes it seem like a 5th gear, or do you have 4 gear selections on your lever plus the OD button?

Vaughn

3 position selector. The transmission has a total of 5 forward gears, weather it's a 4 speed with an additional lockup or a 3 speed plus overdrive with an additonal lockup.

Wayne,

You are probably right. All I know is that it has a total of 5 forward gears.

If this is correct, that means I can only get at WOT about 2500 RPM in 3rd before it shifts to OD. Is there any way to adjust this. I would like to see WOT shift from 3rd to OD at about 3200 RPM's.

since 2000 the programming of the 47Re has been to run 1st,2nd,3rd, then lock the tc in 3rd (under WOT) at 2700RPM,(the hp peak),then 3rd locked will run to 3150-3200 then the 3-4 shift will be made locked up. I would think the 48RE is the same, only difference i would think they would do is raise the lockup RPM in 3rd to 2900RPM to match the higher Hp peak of the new isbe.

I have a coworker with an o4 48re that has problems holding third tooooo long. He has taken ti to the dealer twice for reprogarming, not fixed yet. I believe it is in the transmission itself. The 48re is a four speed if you count overdrive. It is an evalution of the 727 torqueflite with aroud 40 internal modifications to the 47re especially in the planetary and clutches. I don't remember the website but there are pictures available of the before and after comaparsons of the internals. You woud be impressed. The overdrive unit is added at the back of the transmission. 3rd gear is a 1 to 1 ratio and 4th is overdrive but i am not sure what the ratio is. somewhere around . 70 to one.

Just kidding Big Bob. I wanted an auto anyway because my cell phone and latte collide with the shifter when I am turning right :D . The guys with Allisons have had a lot weirder issues and I bet it will be easier to work the Dodge transmission concerns out than it has been for the Allisons. That is one complicated baby with protected software. geusterman

Don't get me wrong, I love the auto. I was just hoping that the rpm's might be able to be raised when it kicked into OD. :D
