I have a 06 5. 9 with a 48re... ...

It appears that the front seal is leaking... .

Anybody know whats up with that??

The truck only has 31,000 miles on it with NO towing!!!

just hold on...
the transmission can puke excess fluid in two different spots, and it will look like a front seal.
( i know for a fact)
1st the hose/overfill line for the transmission is at the top of the bell housing, when it leaks it can go in between motor and transmission.

2nd the transmission also has "vent" puke spot in side the bell housing area (above the frt seal on the transmission) when this leaks it come out the access hole/plate, and looks like a leak.

Make sure it's trans fluid and not coolant... There is a coolant hose about 4" long underneath the exhaust manifold that is prone to leaking, the path the leaking coolant takes can deceive you into thinking it's trans fluid.

If it is the trans, in addition to the above mentioned possibilities, the front band adjustment stud can also leak, it will mimic a trans pan gasket leak. The stud leak is easy to repair with thread lock and a thin copper washer.

This appears to be another of the many perfect examples of the value of TDR membership.

A member asked a question about a problem he was experiencing and less than eight hours later another member suggested a diagnosis that appears to be correct. Shortly after that another added to the information provided.

MCanon,

Be sure to go to the beginning of the thread as well, that link takes you to the last page. There are Cummins part numbers listed there, will save you $20. 00 or so to get the parts from them as opposed to Dodge.

Don't let anyone talk you out of the upgraded squeeze clamps as those are what make it a lasting repair... .....

Mike. :)
