The repair is done on the bottom side of the VB where there are not any ports. What your drilling is cast iron not aluminum but the point is valid. Blow everything off and clean it up well and you should not have a problem.
Removal and reinstallation if the Valve Body requires care and patience. The valve body Detent bore is aluminum, I wraped the entire valve body in clean rags leaving the detent bore exposed prior to reaming and drilling. The repair kit cost roughly $13 the recomended tool kit (drill bit and reamer) cost roughly $120. The job took around 5 hours. Thanks for the help and suggestions.
I installed the sonnax repair kit tonight on my brother's 06 that has been hard to shift out of park for a couple months. It seems to have corrected the problem and wasn't too bad to do the repair other than being a little tricky getting the detent pin out. Also put the GM style governor solenoid in. Definitely want to have a clean place to work on it.
Thank you TDR members for always being a great source of information.
