My father in laws transmission (48re) is starting to shutter in first gear with 34k on the transmission. This couldn't be the TC cause it doesn't lock up in first. What would cause it to shutter in first under light throttle? Doesn't seem to do it in any other gear. He does have an EZ on there but it's never above level 3. He doesn't beat his truck at all either. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's transmission-related? Could be a driveline shudder, caused either by failing U-joints, or the carrier bearing (if it's a two-piece shaft). If it is a two-piece shaft, 4x4, and you want to try and isolate the problem, you can remove the rear portion of the rear driveshaft, put it in 4x4, and drive the truck. If it still shudders, then it's probably in the transmission (because although the rear driveshaft is still turning, it's not under any load). If the shudder goes away, then you have an issue with the rear driveshaft.
