Hey all,

My '03 is starting to shift different. I picked this truck up last Nov and all winter it shifted fine. Now that's it's getting warmer out I noticed hard shifts occuring after the trans warms up. When first starting out it will shift real smooth, keeping the rpm's under 2000. After extended highway driving or stop and go city driving it will not want to shift to 2nd or 3rd till it revs up to 2500 rpms then it's a hard shift both up and down. It also feels like to go pedal is getting hung up and I have to apply pressure to get it past a certain point before the shift takes place. Is my trans going south? Fluid and filter are fresh. I've still got warranty left any ideas on what to tell the dealer to look for? Thanks for any and all input!

Ken

I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem as my truck occasionaly does the same thing. I did a search on it once and threre was something close from someone who needed a new throttle valve.

Joe

As a guess the governor pressure solenoid is having issues or the TP cableneeds adjustment. The hanging pedal sounds more like a mechanical issue. Do you mean there is a tight spot in the travel of the pedal that you have to push harder to get past?

As you push on it and get up to about 2000 rpm there's is a spot that get's tight and you have to just push through it meanwhile the rpm are getting to about 2500 before shifting, atleast on mine. I don't want to hijack the thread from anyone but that is how mine is. Does it in 1st and 2nd only

That's exactly what's happening. Feels like a binding situation and you have to push past it. Meanwhile the shifts are hard going up and down. Seems to be doing it more frequently now too.

shutters/jerky

I just towed my Montana :D 5ther 12000lbs to Monterey and back to Reno. It now feels as if; it shutters/jerks back and forth ( a gaser, timing off )between 1 & 2nd . If I hit the hard pedal it will go away. No codes. The tow/haul mode didnt hold or it held the gear too long. Some times I towed in OD as I hit level ground. Any body else with this.

Hey Blue Ox, did you ever take your truck in to the dealer? I'm on the road right now and don't want to stop at an out of town dealer, in case they say we need to keep the truck. Runs fine at highway speeds, except for that problem we both seem to be having.

And don't worry about hijacking, that's what this site is all about. To try and solve the probs that crop up with our trucks.

I just got it back from the dealer about a week ago, they replaced fluid, changed the govenor solenoid and the shift solenoids(if that's what they are called) I'm gonna make another trip to the dealer soon because warranty is almost up.

Joe

So did that seem to fix the shifting problem? I'll be home tomorrow and want to set up an appt with my dealer. My warranty is almost up too and I want to have them fix it before I spend any $. I can see going to one of the aftermarket transmission guys one day!

Ken

No it did'nt fix it but atleast I don't have another $100 deduct,so hopefully when i put it in the shop in a week or 2 they can look at that throttle valve like the previous post I looked at said.

Update on this prob. Was at dealer this afternoon and went with the tech for a ride to explain this prob. Luckily it did the same thing while he was driving. He had his DRB hooked up and everything read normal on it. Got it in the shop and he still couldn't figure why it was acting this way. He called the tech line and explained to them and they said the VB needs replacing. Seems line pressures are up and not allowing the shifts to take place at the proper time, (techs explanation to me). VB is on order and when it's installed I'll post to see if that solved it.

Ken

Thanks BRayls, don't know if the transducer is part of the VB or not but it's under warranty so I'll let em put in as many new parts as it needs. Just hate having to waste time going there for the work.

The part came in and I scheduled it for tomorrow. Will keep my fingers crossed and post if that solved the prob.

yes it is part of the vb.

Hey Ken does your trans seem to be fixed?I'm looing at bringing it in a week so I was wondering if that fixed yours or not. I"m gonna take the tech for a ride like you did and show them.

Joe

Hi Joe, the VB replace seems to have done the trick. I drove it under the same conditions that got it to act up before and it doesn't do that anymore. I've only got about 50 miles on it but I think that solved the prob. Good luck with yours.

Ken

Allright thank's Ken,I'm takin the truck in next week and gonna have the tech go for a ride with me as soon as I get there and we will see if he thinks it's the valve body
