The 48RE is a descendant of the 727. The main case is almost identical. The tailhousing contains the overdrive section.

Oh, come on. You really think DC would put a fuse in for a transmission that isn't even available yet? Car makers don't do that. Aisin makes a bunch or different products. The simplest answer is that the fuse is either manufactured by Aisin or control some other product on the truck made by Aisin.

I do think they'd do that and obviously did. Makes production easier. Changes being made on the assembly line as the time draws near for that unit. Vehicles are usually always made wired and plumbed for differant configurations. Used with differant engines,trannnys and differant countrys etc.
 
Interesting that they would label a fuse with the name of the manufacturer rather than the actual item the fuse protects...
