Fluidamper on 4BT

Ford ZF-6spd in 90

I think I have the van I want.

(Ford 1/2 ton vans with 4b's can get 26MPG)

There are MANY 4b's out there for CHEAP!

Anyone out there had one of them juiced a little?

I have driven a 4b van for many many miles bone stock, but was wondering what could be done with the pumps on a stocker and the injectors.

If I could get the thing up to a stock 6B's numbers I would be happy.

Anyone got a turned up 4b?

What did you do?

How hot?

Injectors?

How does it run?

The marine 4BT's with P-Pumps are rated up to 250hp...

Good luck finding a P-Pumped 4BT, though... I have yet to even see one.

I do have a 4-cylinder P-Pump sitting on my kitchen table, though.

If it makes 250HP @ 2400rpm, then torque would be approx: 547lb/ft at the flywheel.

torque (lb-ft) = 5252 x hp / rpm

hp = rpm x torque (lb-ft) / 5252

In the real world however, other factors, such as barometric pressure, relative humidity, oxygen density, temperature, fuel quality, engine temperature, harmonics etc. , etc. don't allow HP/torque to maintain the completely fixed relationship that the equation would suggest. In any case, like you, I'm more interested in torque and how much my head snaps back when I hit the go pedal :D !

I think you guys are getting the point in my head by looking at those numbers...

No, it is not a decked out DDIII machine with twins, but for a 'burban or camper van... just what the doctor ordered for a daily driver.

Besides, all you Harley Guys would be in LOVE with these engines.

They are JUST like a Harley. They rattle everything off that you bolt on.

Well, maybe not JUST like a Harley. These motors actually run properly and make good power. :--)

4b

We put a 4bt in a one ton. Stock configuration. Not enough hp and shakes like a dog s***in persimon seeds. Still ain't bad. Got a couple of spanking new 4bs with internal balancers. Can't wait to hear and see them run.

Drove a ISB 145 145 HP 400 somthing tq Allison 5spd the other day in a cake truck (Bread truck) ran good lots of get up and go
not like the 6s but not to bad 96-00 rout trucks have the 4BTA w P pump on them runs better than the VE pump ones but break throttle shafts alot

4BT Hop Up

My friend has a 1985 chevy step van, (bread truck) it is equipped with a cummins 4BT and allison 4sp transmission We took it out for a test drive one afternoon and what a mutt. It took almost 3/4 of a mile to get up to 55mph, that had to change. We got him a pyrometer and a k+n cone filter, still haven't got him a boost gauge yet. The 4bt has a rotary pump on it, so we turned in the fuel screw a little bit and played with the afc setup, and wow, that 4bt came to life. It smokes really good now and egts top out a 950* post turbo and for acceleration it now will climb from a dead stop to 55mph in a 1/4 mile and it is alot more fun to drive, you can actually pass someone on the highway if needed to now. Oo.

4bta hop up?

I have a 120hp 4bta sitting on the frame rails of a scout just waiting for my ass to get the project completed... . have a set of PODs for it, that should make some fog! Once completeded i want to dyno it..... i'm guessing it will make +20hp and +35 torque any speculators? Any one with some hard numbers?

My van fell through :(

If any of you know about a 1/2 ton extended ford van for cheap with a nice body... (No Dents, No Rot) lemme know.

The problem I am finding is that the things are either window vans, or they are beat to hell from being used for construction.

:(

I need one without windows...

I also want to stick with the old configuration, not the new models.

sounds like you should be looking for a flower shop truck or similar delivery service that buys stock vans to transport their products. They hardly ever put any weight in them, just bulky items. Neighbor bought a 1992 ford van a few months ago for $2500. 00 from a florist just like you're talking about. It needed minor front end work and brakes. He is driving it everyday over 130 miles.

rbalcom make sure you post up picture of that Scout when done. I'm a Scout fan and have a friend swapping one into a Scout II and another friend that has already put one into a Scout 800. Both are set up for rockcrawling and the 4b works really good. I myself have a 1936 international truck with a 4b

I turned up the pump and advanced the timing in my Scout (4BT) nonintercooled and got good performance but the EGT's were too high. So I've turned it back down and now looking for a intercooler to add infront.
