Thinking of Getting a 2nd Gen Crew Cab

Does anyone know what bellhousings are available for the 4bt? I'm looking for one to bolt up to an AX-15 transmission in a 93 jeep wrangler. Right now the jeep has a 4. 0 straight six gasser, made by chrysler. I am looking to use the same transmission and put a 4bt in. Anyone have any ideas?

DT, Cummins "B" series engines can be had with chevy or Dodge bell housing adapters and SAE housings. Advance Adapters makes a bell housing to adapt a chevy small block to your AX15. So it could be done. But The low end torque of the Cummins is sure to shorten the life of the AX15, I would vote for using a NV4500.

Thanks

thanks for the reply.

what do you think of the nv3550 they are putting in the new jeep tj's? would they stand up to the torque?

thanks.

btw, does anyone know what the different bellhousings dodge has?

The nv3500 is also used behind the Dakota V8. GM uses it in the Chevy S10 behind the 4. 3 and in the C10 behind the 5. 0 V8. It is a pretty strong unit.

I'VE GOT A '91 WRANGLER THET WAS ORIGINALLY A 4. 0/AX15 JEEP. I SWAPPED IN A 4BT AND NV4500. I USED A DODGE TRUCK CUMMINS ADAPTER AND BELLHOUSING, ALONG WITH THE DODGE CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL. THE DODGE CUMMINS BELLHOUSING IS MUCH BIGGER THAN THE JEEP AND OTHER CHRYSLERS. ALSO IT USES A HUGE 12. 25" CLUTCH. I FOUND THIS TO BE THE BEST AND CHEAPEST ROUTE. THE ADAPTERS YOU WOULD HAVE TO BUY TO MOUNT THE AX15 OR NV3550 WOULD BE OUTRAGEOUS. PLUS NEITHER OF THEM WOULD STAND THE TORQUE. I GOT THE PARTS USED FROM ENTERPRISE ENGINE PERFORMANCE. www.enterpriseengine.com TRUST ME... GO FOR THE NV4500!

Thanks for the info SClements...

Where did you get the 4bt?

About how much did you spend for the NV4500 and bellhousing?

What transfer cases will bolt up to the NV4500 besides the atlas?

Thanks for the help...

Avant Salvage in (or near Atlanta) has pull our 4bt's. Some with trannys. GM trannies I think. Call them. Ask for Jamie. I bought a pullout 6. 2 for my Blazer and it has been a terrific engine. Good people. Tell Jamie you heard this from George Eusterman. He knows I just switched to Dodge from GM and will get a kick out of it. George

Thanks, I have heard of the Avant's might have to give them a call.

WHat's the best price around on 4bt's? I heard once that their was a place in wisconsin that had them for cheap...

Both atlanta and wisconsin are equally far for me here in colorado... :) ;)

SClements, Was the your Jeep at Muncie? That was one nice looking Jeep. I don't have a Wranglerm, but I have an old 80 CJ-5 as my toy. I wouldn't mind about getting a Cummins into my Jeep as the 350 TBI really drinks fuel like it is going out of style and I guess having no overdrive doen't help much either.

At the Michigan GM diesel page rendezvous there was nice CJ with a GM 6. 5TD if you are thinking about replacing the 350. It would be an easy swap if you think of the 6. 5 as a big block GM V-8. It was a great swap and is in the Rendezvous pictures on that site. George

Alright, now you guys are getting me thinking of swapping out my 350 chev. The only problem is that there is only about 1000mi on the whole motor. Swung it in with the SM420. Gotta love the 7. 05:1 first gear. I'd have to keep the 420 with the 4b now there's a combo. HOW MUCH FOR A 4b Cummins???????:D

NO UNFORTUNATELY I WASN'T AT MUNCIE. I BOUGHT ALL MY PARTS FROM ENTERPRISE. NO OFFENSE BUT I'VE WORKED AT A GM DEALER FOR 5 YEARS AND THE 6. 5 IS JUST A HEAVY ANCHOR WAITING TO COME APART AT ANY TIME. I'D DEFINITELY GO WITH THE CUMMINS. THE 4BT HAS JUST ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF TORQUE AS THE 6. 5. OH WELL, ANY CONVERSION TO A DIESEL IS A GOOD THING.
