Thanks, TDR Staff

Motor's been sitting a loooong time!! What do I do?

HX 35 turbo

I just registered (with email and phone number) with them and gave my CC number.

After the bidding was finalized they called me a couple of days later and asked how I wanted to pay?

Of course with CC.

They gave me the information and also the site where I could pick up the vehicle. :)

Now I went to the site where their were many of the units and visuall inspected several before bidding started with vin number and took notes.

Then when bidding was started I just bid until either my highest number or I won.

Simple. Similar to ebay.

Good luck.

Are you allowed to start the vehicles where they sit?

The mechanics are usually very friendly and helpful, so yes they will let you start it up and some will even let you drive it around the lot. I highly recomend what Rotty said about checking out the vans ahead of time. I am glad I did that as you cannot always trust the description given at dovebid.

Good advice. Thank you. What was the "out the door" price of the bread van you purchased? Or can you give me a range of what it might be?

The out the door price is the winning bid plus 7%?? I think.

You may have to apply local taxes also.

I live in Oregon, so no sales tax. ;)

When checking out the vehicle, Find the head mechanic and talk to him. They are usually very helpful.

The runners seem to go for about $1300 to $1500 less if their is something wrong.

remember to look at the configuration of the vehicle...

Ford or chev chassis

manual or automatic,

power steering (gear or belt drive)

vacumn pump (gear or belt drive)

air to air intercooler, air to water intercooler or N/A

rotary or inline injection pump,

etc... .

They came in a bunch of different configurations.

Also remember to get the CPL #, this will tell you the HP.

Good luck...

I bought 2!

Thanks for the link, I bought two vans. I'm trying to decide if that is one too many. I may sell one. I bought one with 134,000 miles and one with 174,000 miles.

Can you give any details on what each van has, ie. ps, auto/manual, ve/inline pump, cpl.

What kind of price did you end up paying if you don't mind me asking?

And congradulations on the winning bids.

Well

I paid a couple thousand bucks a piece with the Dovebid fees. Plus I had to get them home so I guess I'm into them a little more. They are E-350 vans and they have VE pumps. One has a Turbo mounted above the exhaust mainifold and the other is below. They have a 4 speed borg warner manual transmission and aluminum bodies. They shake a bit but remind me a lot of the 6bt in my Suburban. They have a lot of torque and coming up the hills didn't loose much speed. My only concern will be the pumps and the new ULSD. I would love to put a 4bt in an old Scout and run veggie. I have been driving one of the vans all over and I'm having as much fun in my bread van as I ever had in my 03 ZO6 Corvette. I guess you would have to be a member of this forum to understand.

Same here, about $2k after Dovebid fees. I got a Chevy with a 4 speed manual (sm 465?), single rear wheels, hydra-boost brakes/ps, turbo below the manifold. VE pump. I have to agree with you about driving it around- I've been having a blast going up and down the road. Lots of torque for a little engine. I was hoping they would have left the donut and cake graphics on the side thought... I was going to take it cruising past the local Weight-Watchers and try to pick up some women :). My engine is going into a Jeep Wrangler with a NV4500, atlas transfer case, and a couple of dana 60's. I asked the fleet manager if they have had any problems since the ULSD fuel. He said so far that they haven't had any problems whatsoever. I guess time will tell though.
