4BT cost

Thinking of a future conversion of my 1997 Chevy Silverado 1500 to a 4BT if the 4. 3 V6 ever dies out (still runs like new at 200K!).

First question: how much would a guy have to spend to get a servicable 4BT? Where would he go to find it?

Second question: are there kits available to adapt a 4BT to a GM 4L60 transmission? If not, what transmission would I need to use?

Third question: the 4L60 in my old Chevy is electronically controlled? What electronics would I need to make this work?

adapter kits

I have heard of guys pulling the 4bt out of old delivery vans and using them for repower. You might find one at a heavy equip wrecking yard on the cheap. I do believe there are adapter plates for quite a few different trannies. Shouldn't be too hard to find the adapter kit for your chevy. I have seen 4BT in Ford Ranger and maybe a suburban as well. Got one in a 1984 Chevy 3/4 standard. If you can find one that came from a Chevy delivery van with auto, it has everything it takes to bolt-up. You can get the electric controls that will work. That is the easy part, getting the motor mounts was the hardest part for me. I payed 2500 for mine with everything to fit my truck. It had the starter, alt, flywheel, motor mounts and everything ready to run. My pickup had the 6. 2 diesel so the fuel was easy. It has as much or more low end tk. to start off with than the 6. 2 but the top speed is 65 mph. I just use it on short trips and it get over 20 miles, most times around 23.
