will my 84' yota frame hold up?

DC Diesels around the world

I did a search on this subject (XJ cherokee) and didn't really find anything! So has anyone done this and have any info on this swap? Also if I was to start looking for a 4BT where should I start---I know these came in bread trucks, fedex trucks, etc. but can't seem to find any salvage yards with these things. I would also like to find one with an inline pump versus the rotary. Thanks guys!

Avante' Salvage in Georgia has a field full of Frito Lay trucks with 4B's. Located about 75 miles southeast of Atlanta. You can also catch them on Ebay every now and then. Expect to pay in the range of 2000-2500. Do not expect to find a P7100 pumped version, they're not common. It does seem like I recall Benny at Avante sayhing they get some of the FL trucks out of Ohio, which would be closer for you if you could find out where. Seems like the Columbus area.

I researched this swap as well...

I came to the conclusion that the XJ didn't have beefy enough parts in the axles to handle all the weight from the 4BT...

I thought the unibody would suffer from the weight as well...

Matt, I saw your post on this a while back. This will be a daily driver with many mods done to the chassis and suspension. I'll be using a D60 rear and probably a D44 front. I'll be looking into a sub frame connector of some type(Currie ent. ) or home built. Check out my readers rides for my TJ---- not the best pic but I did a very in depth recon on it with Rockwells. Yes on that last question. The 44 will hold up for at least a while too. I did some pretty ridiculous stuff with mine ad I didn't break it. I'm working on putting a 60 and a 70 in it now.

The salvage yard I got mine from is Avant Salvage in Sandersville GA. (not Avante SAvery) 912-552-1901

Braden: A TJ with Rockwell's? I like the way you think...

Maybe I didn't research this as far as I should have... I had no idea Currie made something to stiffen those things up... I guess I had a valid concern - that is easily 'fixed'.

I don't want one all lifted up - stock ride height would make for a better 'sleeper'.

XJ - better axles/diffs, 4-whl disc brakes, 4BT or aluminum 3-53 Detroit (with REAL Jake Brake!), and an NV-4500... man, that would be SWEET!

Yeah, most of the abuse will be on the D60 because I'm gonna try to keep it out of the ROCKS and leave it on the pavement-----unlike the TJ;)
