Engine for crewcab...

non cummins questions..transmission adapters for detroit 353?'s

OK guys... . I reciently picked up a new used car. It's a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 260E. It has 190,000 miles on it. It has an I6 gasser in it. I was thinking the other day... . If a guy can put a twin turbo'ed 4bt in a Jeep Wrangler... . Why couldn't I (down the road a bit) put a 4bt in this Benz? Where would I find a 4bt? What size are the twins for a 4bt? What trans do guys use on a 4bt?

Thanx

Josh

How about vibrations? My 4BT shook up its Frito Lay step van quite noticeably when being shut off. I shudder to think what it would do to a much lighter vehicle...

One issue would be weight... how do you feel about the suspension on those Benz's? Do you think it's up to the task of supporting a 4BT?

Go out and measure your 6BT from valvecover to oil pan. How much of a bulge in the hood are you going to need to stuff it into the engine bay? These pups are pretty tall beasts...

It's too bad that the A-series Cummins engines have a shaky past... and bad parts availability.

Have you thought about using a VW diesel?

Think about that a benz with a twin turbo and a cowl induction hood while you at it how bout tubbing it and some drag slicks think about that also cant forget the through the roof stack  :D

Right now the car has a cast iron block I 6 under the hood. The car I have also could have had a turbo'ed 5 or 6cylinder Diesel. I don't think the weight will be much different. The Benz blocks are quite heavy! Are the 4bt's as tall as the 6bt?

A small cast iron block I6 gasser might weigh 450lbs with all the accessories... double that and you have a 4BT with all the fixin's.

4BT's are nothing more than a 6BT missing two cylinders... there identical in every way as far as the dimensions - except for length... for obvious reasons.

I think this is going to be a SWEET project. :D
