4bt Variants

I'll be in the market for a couple 4BTs one of these days. One for a '46 CJ-2 I have with no engine, and one for a '62 M-37. Did they follow the same development patterns as the 6BT? So there would be older 8 valves, newer 16 valves, and maybe even a CR version?

Yes, their are different variants

2 valve rotary (every where)= mechanical rotary

2 valve inline (not too many)= p7100 style

4 valve CR (but rear mount gear pump, i. e. back by flywheel) Brand new only seen one are the cummins shop.



You will most likely use a rotary as the inlines are stilled used and not really hit the auctions/ebay.

I have a 49' Willy's Pick up that I have considered putting in a 4bt. however, I do not want to spend the money to replace axles as soon as the motor is is. my other option is a Ford inline 300ci with a dual plane intake and a 4bbl. then again maybe I should just take longer to build and do what I really want.

Well, I have a '64 Chevy 327 I was going to put in the jeep, but I decided I didn't want to go to all that work. I had decided on using a Chevy "Iron Duke" 151 ci 4 banger, but I was in Guatemala on a mission trip last spring and everything there had a diesel, so I decided I just had to put some kind of diesel in it. The 4BT seems to be the most available in this country, and it would go well with the new pick-up.
