4BTA Internal Counter Balanced

I put a 1999 4BTA Recon in my 1943 Dodge Carryall conversion. The engine runs really smooth, at idle there is no shake at all.



So I am wondering if this engine may be internally Counter Balanced. How can you tell if it has internal counter balance ? Is there anything on the data plate that will tell.

High speed balancer

Your cummins dealer can tell you from the data plate info if the engine was built with a high speed balancer. We have used hundreds of the four cylinder cummins and some times the lemons line up right and they are smooth from the factory. Most shake a bit. From my experience, the stronger they are the more they shake. Seems that whoever you bought your engine from could have known. But check with cummins. Get the build date and serial number and they can tell.
