Whats it weight???

How much power can you get from a 4bt?

My friend picked up a 4bta for a good price. It has an ait-to-water innercooler and a rotary pump. It is my understanding that these engines have a WH1C turbo. His turbo boesn't have a tag on it anywhere.

Am I right about the turbo model number, and what size is the the exhaust housing?

Thanks Phill

I was under the impression that they had H1C's... if it's a WH1C it's probably a 12cm.

so is it wastegated or not?

I'd put an Hy35-9 on if I had a 4bt

Forrest

The housing is non-wastegated. I used a set of vernial (sp?) calipers and compared a 12cm2 housing to the 4bta housing and the 4bta housingis about 1 inch larger in diameter. No, I wasn't thinking at the time to check the actual difference. The engine is a Cummins ReCon from 1997.

I'm curious what application this engine is from? A 97 would be a p-pump if I understand things correctly. Is it an ag application or over-the-road? Do you have a CPL #? Can you get pictures? :D

Get your friend to join the 4bt group, address is in my sig...

The engine is from a Frito-Lay truck. He wasn't that interested but the price was too good to pass up. He got the engine, transmission(turbo 400) and the entire front half of the truck with all of the steering goodies and anything else to make it run for around $900. The guy even started the engines and let him choose which one he wanted, and then went to town with a cutting torch.

Willys: I'll tell him about your 4bta group but he is pretty busy building his cummins powered 51 Chevy, I've wrote about it before.

We haven't taken the turbo off yet, But you can't se any casting numbers in the housing to tell what size it is, like you can on an HX35 housing. The thought right now is to switch the housings between the 6bta and the 4bta, but he wants to know the 4bta housing size first. He doesn't want it to be too laggy on the 6bta. Side note: the 6bta is getting a set of 370's.

My HY35W on a 4BT

Here's my 4BTA with an HY35W on it. My album is at the Yahoo Groups cummins4bt. Look at Salmonbarry album. You may have to join the group before you can see the album. Should have it on the road today. Have not turned up the aneroid or any other fuel adjustments yet to match the turbo's boost improvement over the H1C. I want to get some driving baseline mileage numbers first. Will post as I turn up the fuel. Intend to do a baseline and dyno and another after I turn up the fuel too.

Willys,

My 119hp 4BT was built in 12/99 and it also has a VE rotory pump on it. I think you will find only a hand full of 4BT's have the MW inline pump on them.
