i just had my 4 gsk kit installed and the truck now sputters at about 3200 rpms. the mechanic says it may be due to the pump timing which is still at its factory setting. Obviously it needs to be adjusted but i'm not sure exactly how many degrees wether say 15 17 which is better or what are the advantages to each. also is the mechanic right is this what causes the high rpm sputter?

heres the setup 370's 4gsk 191 dv's hx40 afe intake 4" straight pipe

thanks for any help you can give

p. s. this thing hauls you know what now :-laf

17 is better than 15 w/ your setup IMHO...

when you say sputter, do you mean at zero load, or do you mean, laying into it from down low and when you hit 3200 it starts breaking up...

pop

thats a good way to describe it its a popping it almost sounds like the exhaust popping but i know its the pump obviously. also when i get my pump retimed will i be able to get more rpm's out of it?

if it's breaking up because it doesn't have enough timing, then yes, adding timing will allow you to wind it out more.

FWIW, my pump is set at 16. 5*, and the only problem I have is at no load in lower gears 1-2-3, if the RPM's are sitting at 2000+ and I nail it, it'll break up and pop and blow unburnt diesel smoke out the pipe... I think it's my turd of an HX40 because it never did it when I had the stock turbo. but it pulls smooth on the big end to 4k
