heres the y-pipe after I painted it black. and what i did to the tool box. i welded some little pieces of angle iron under the box to keep junk from hitting the y-pipe and so i can still slide matterials under the box if needed and not damadge the y-pipe.

and some of the down under. you can see where i went from 4inch to 5inch, and that 5inch straight piece of pipe is where i might replace with a small piece of flex to allow some give in the system. you can also see that spot just before the 90* where the 3 welds are. i used a mirror to weld the top of them. and my welding gas was crapping out on me soo all those welds look like junk, but oh well their functional and their under the truck so im not loosing and sleep over it :-laf

oh yea and, i no i no... . thats a huge hole in the bed! #@$%! since i went and cut off the 4inch part of the y-pipe and made it 5inches, i couldnt use the 4inch holesaw i had, and since i had to remove the crossbeem i figured id just get out the grinder and make a box out of it, and one thing led no another and well i got a freaking huge hole in my bed :-laf

thanks pete! i really apreciate that. yea most of my buddies keep telling me to paint the old box, but ya no, i think it give the truck some more character, makes it look a little more rugged.

what color do you think i should do it tho, if i ever was to finally break down and paint the thing :-laf

Orange, of course! It makes the truck stand out. ;) :-laf Unless you try to sneak around to do illegal stuff. :{

hahah no im very openly illegal :-laf

yea i think it probly would make the truck look better if it had a nice fresh coat of orange on it... hmm thats something ill have to put some thought into. cause as you can see, where ever i have to weld on it or do anything that removes the orange paint, i just spray it over with brown :-laf:-laf:-laf poor mans way of preventing rust, just slap a coat of somthin on it and call her good! :D i thought about black cause it would blend with the stacks and the bedliner, but i do like the orange a lot... . me and my truck are kinda known by that, as if me and the truck arnt identifiable enough already :-laf but it still makes it stick out that extra bit.

Now we need to hear it! I cannot believe all the work that you put in to your exhaust! I saw someone mention some flex pipe inserted to reduce the vibration of the truck into the exhaust pipe... where would be the best spot for flex?

yea im going to borrow a buddies video camera and have him tape a few drivebys and stuff. and then have him load the videos for me, sinces im computer half illiterate :D

as far as the flex pipe goes, on my system, im probly going to put it in between the transfercase and the 908 elbow that goes to the y-pipe. maybe a 1-2 foot section of 5inch on the straight and easiest part of the system. i would say that same place would probly be the easiest place on any system.

It all depends on how the system is mounted. Originally all the hangers had a rubber to let it move. If you put solid hangers on, you will have problems. The box can twist independant of the front too. I hung mine on rubber mounts, then used a short piece of flex up to the stack box.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, rubber mounted hangers to the rear, then flex before the "Y".

my system really only has 1 hanger. and thats the bell housing mount, which has zero give and is practically solid. so i have the downpipe tight to the turbo housing, the bell housing mount, and then it just runs all the way back to the y-pipe, and the y-pipe is welded to the bed for support, and the y-pipe is also bandclamped to the stacks which are bolted to the bed, so the system is extremely solid and has some give to it on the long part under the cab, but thats because it is so long and the metal flexs a bit. but i plan on a piece of 5inch flex pipe on the middle of the 5inch piece i have pictured here already on the previous page. i may add a hanger then just behind the TC infront of the flexpipe.

Wow. Four pages of posts and we are still on the starting topic. LOL Figured there would be a discussion on chrome lug nuts or something like that by now. Nice job on the exhaust. I agree, though, you need some flex in the system.

Dave

very ture dave, with the way treads end up going around here, shoot we could be onto forign affairs by the time we get into the 4th page. :-laf i took a lot of space with the picturs tho in this thread.

thanks for the compliment. yea i agree with yall, some flex is in order here for sure.

The clamp on the bell housing? It should be rubber too. Mine has a rubber bushing the bolt goes thru. ;)

Dave? Don't be upset that this thread isn't interesting like the others we had going! I'm sure it will get lost too. After all, this is only the 3rd page! ;)

:-laf:-laf

well yea pete it does have a rubber bushing on the mount, but..... due to the much larger size of the 4inch pipe, i had to cut, heat, and bend the mount to fit the 4inch pipes angle, and it still didnt fit the way i needed it too, so i put a nut between the rubber and the bellhousing to space it out properly. so there it no rubber in contact with anything. which doesent really matter tho, because the bellhousing is bolted tight with the motor, so its not like i need the pipe to be able to flex somewhere between the bellhousing and the turbo :D
