Hey Gang ,

hope someone can help me out ,I was told i had a 4K governor spring kit installed in my pump around a year ago when i was not as brave to do these mods myself. Now ive been learning ALOT as i go and have noticed the Plug or governor spring cover nut was NEVER removed. is there a way to install these springs without taking this plug or the back half of the pump off? and is there a way i can tell if the springs are ORIGINAL and NOT replaced as i was told? Ive been in the plate hole under the AFC housing alot recently fixing many lies and have noticed the governor spring adjust nut looks like it was possibly tightened down more than original but those springs dont look like they were replaced or would come out thru the top, and the plug/nut untouched, still has the tamper wire as originally installed.  I am now realizing alot more that i am the only one so far i can trust in NJ to work on My 12v! I paid ALOT of money to a well known shop here to (RIP ME OFF):( if any one can help me out here i would really appreciate it. thanks a bunch!

They can be removed and installed from the side cover that you mentioned. The best way to tell if they were installed correctly or at all is to see if your truck will fuel past 3000+ rpm. As for the adjusting nut the clearance between the top of the treaded shaft and the nut should be the same as it was stock. This is measured with dial calipers and all the gov spring kits that I ahve installed have benn form . 036-. 048 range. I hope this helped you, good luck

Note: You will be able to tell if the adjustment nut is to tight by snaping your throttle off idle. If the truck dies it is to tight, or if your truck is in park and you hold the throttle down a quarter throttle and the rpms do not hold steady and keeps revving there to tight.

Someone said that they could be installed by going through the cam plate hole.

If your truck revs, you werent ripped off.

O I miss read your question, Patriot is right the gov springs can be installed through via cam plate hole that is the way I install them for customers.

thanks much!

Thanks guys i wasnt sure if it was possible thru the cam plate hole but ive learned you and others have done it that way. and im in hope that they were replaced.

ive unwillingly put the pedal down to see where it holds back and it seems to stop at almost 3300rpm. thats ONE of the reasons i am concerned if they were replaced or just adjusted.

:(

Someone could have shimmed the stock springs for more rpm. Before Piers came across the heavier Bosch springs, I had a shim, about . 15 thick I think, that gave me 3500 rpm. The special springs are reddish brown and stock springs are usually white steel colored--not coated. The stock seats are usually 2 piece, and the seats Piers makes are one piece for the inner springs.
