Is it just mine or are your 3G 4x2 the worst bump steering trucks ever?

I have a very heavily modified Jeep Wrangler and it doesn't have near the bumpsteer my truck does!

It's when you hit a bump at low speeds and it jerks the steering wheel in that direction. It comes from having fast-ratio steering among other things, I'm not impressed with it either on my 4x2. In many ways I liked the steering on my 2001 4x2 better.

I have never noticed a problem with mine. And we have some pretty amazing  roads here. This truck steers much better than my 97 did. FWIW

I've never noticed a problem either. It's the best steering truck I've ever owned. Love that rack and pinion steering!!!

No problem with the steering wheel being jerked, and I have even tested it over bumps by taking my hand off the wheel (but keeping it just above the steering wheel in case the truck swerved) as I rolled over rough roads. Stayed straight as an arrow. But I have noticed that it does a lot of road walking on entrance ramps. It's like the back end is doing the Brim twist, but I think that is because it is a heavy duty truck that is unloaded.

I have seen others complaining about it drifting, but I've never had that issue.

My '96 2500 had no bump steer at all. Maybe I need to have mine looked at.

Mine exhibits no low speed bump-steer, but it will **try** to yank the wheel out of my hands if I hit a bad bump at 50 MPH or better. Anybody experienced that?

Yes to clarify it's most pronounced at low speeds, like 10-20mph and slower, and you roll over a bump or undulation with one tire but not the other. It will pull the wheel that direction but doesn't significantly change course if you have your hands off the wheel. If I drive slowly up a rocky road the steering wheel is constantly jerking back and forth and the rack & pinion takes a pounding. My 2001 didn't do that at all, it was smooth and the steering was unfased.

Also when on the highway my truck reacts to a pothole by jerking that way and weaving for a split second. My 2001 never did that, no twitching over potholes.

Personally I'd rather have a good recirculating ball setup instead of this rack & pinion. My experience has been racks don't hold up as well and are more expensive to service or replace than conventional steering.

On the plus side my new truck tracks a little more easily, it has a bit less play and better on-center feel, and it definitely handles better. And I always had an issue with snapping and popping coming through the column on my 2001 when going over bumps that drove me nuts and I never could resolve that issue.

That's exactly the problem I have.
