Thanks Guys, This has given me everything I needed to know. Seems these things are like Auto trannie threads... ..... I may be moving in a different direction after my test with a older UNNAMED 400 4x4  . Mower was one of the largest made (so I was told) with a 16hp Briggs.

Thanks again..... Jim

I owned a Polaris, really enjoyed it first 18 months, never had a problem with the belt slipping "original or the replacement"Starter went out cost $500. But that was before the camshaft wore out, only $1700. I simply couldn't afford the repair bills and be able to eat regularly! Now I own a gator, Teenage son hates it {top speed 17 mph & no repairs after 2 yrs}. When son moves out I will probably buy Artic Cat

grissley

:) Todd t, My mowing is done in low range at about 1\4 throttle and usually don't see the fan come on for about an hour after i start. I painted the fins on the fan so I can see how long it stays on. I don't have a radiator (wish it did) so I watch the heat. If it gets too hot, so am I and I take a break! I suppose the Susuki with the multi trans would would work the best for this application. These grissley are pretty bullet proof from the people I run into with them. tim

Shrimpy, I have a new Kawasaki 650 I will let you ride when I get it back from the farm after hunting season. We could possibly hook up and I could bring it home. I think you need to test drive them as well as get opinions.

I know a few places we can play in the mud too. :)

Okie, Thanks for the offer but I am heading in a different direction. I test drove an old 400 4x4 but I don't think a larger rig will help. It comes down to the mowing mechanism not fitting the bill. The ones you pull with ATV's will be stressed and overworked so I am looking at a different route.

From what I have found in talking with ATV owners, and research, each brand does something a little different. So if you are looking, do your homework. Thanks everyone... .

Shrimpy,

I have a 02 Big Bear 400 4x4. It is a great little machine. It may not be as fast as the grizz but it still has power and is very addgile. I have 27" tires, 2500 lb winch and soon to come a custom front bumper. It is very hard to get stuck. A friend and I wanted to see which was stronger his 660 grizz or my little 400.

Believe it or not my 400 stoped that 660 in its tracks. It is a manumatic trans which means you change gears but no clutch. #ad
here is a pic of it not very good. That was after a mild night of ridding.
