I have been slowly bringing my 93 (Big Ugly) into a more mechanically sound condition. The front pads were new when I got it so I left those alone but made sure they were there. I replaced the rear shoes with premium parts and had the drums turned. After that I still felt that the feel was not quite up to par nor was the stopping power. I have bled and bled with no improvement. So got a new master cylinder and vac/booster. Still the same feel.

If I pump once the pedal feels mushy. If I pump once and then apply pressure again the pedal feels better but slowly sinks to the one pump position. The slave sliders do not leak so what else could be causing this?

I'm currently working on a 91 4X4 with the same. Both brake lamps are illuminated. I am going to try plugging the rear circuit at the new master cyl and see if the rear system is causing the soft peddle.

Most likely it be time to remove the abs cylinder.

Mine is doing the same, let me know if that helps, I also tried going to the 3" brakes with the bigger wheel cylinders, still didn't help, M/C , front brakes, I just figured I had to live with it, being my 03 will stand you on its nose,LOL, would love to do something for the brakes on the 92, thanks

I guess that to remove the abs block you would need to get two strait through blocks to splice the brake lines together.

I hate going to the parts store to ask for stuff that doesn't exist. Any suggestions?

I work right next door to my girlfriend, who is a service writer for a shop. When I have him bypass the ABS valve (he helped me do that on Ol Blue, as well), I'll have him make a note of what size union/adaptors to buy.

Rebel Ram,

Did you get a NEW or Reman MC? I've had trouble with remans in the past, and will only install NEW, BENDIX master cylinders. The Dana 80 (13x3. 5 shoes) helped a whole lot, which leads me to believe the mushiness was in the rears.

I feel for ya, man. I had a 92 W250 that I traded off for the 91 D350 I had til last Feb, just because of the brakes (or more properly, the lack thereof).

My truck had mushy brakes like Rebel's. I removed the ABS valve on the frame and replaced the lines from front to the axle. Then I unplugged the ABS box behind the glovebox. This worked like a charm! Solid feel to the pedal, stops on a . 25 and gives . 10 change. :D If you replace the line, no special adapters are needed, the axle hose is the same as line thread.

So the ABS is what is giving that mushy feel in the brakes? If I remove all that want it lock up then? Especially under hard braking?
