4X4 diff service $$

I just had the fluids in the front and rear diffs changed by the dealer... wow! I don't know if all the diffs use the same lube, but what they put in my diffs (limited slip) came to $134 JUST FOR THE LUBE! (7 quarts at almost $20/qt) Add $111 for labor time and that's one stiff bill. Holy smokes... I need a shade tree and a creeper...

Did they put in synthetic oil? For that price, it should be.

Holy smokes is right. :{ Even if they did use syn that is still way expensive for lube and labor. It really is an easy task to do yourself even if not mechanically inclined. Plant a tree and get the creeper. I use syn and it runs me less than 9. 00 qt, 1 tube of rtv, 6. 95, less than an hour of time, free, feeling of not getting ripped, priceless. By the way do not mean this as a flame at all just shocked at that cost.

On the 3rd gens, you don't even need the RTV ... at least on the rear diff. (I have a 4x2 )

I asked 3 dodge dealers before I took mine off and they all said use rtv and then I see this gasket and call and they said no don't you must use a gasket but the nearest gasket was 2 days away so I reused mine. The gasket is reusable, the way it's constructed I would say it's good for quite a few times.

I used Mobil 1 75W-90 $6-$9 per quart. Yes, reuse the gasket.

When I got my certified pre owned I was told it was all good. When I got the first oil change free. I was told service time was close so since I wasnt up to date on this truck I had front rear transfer trans fuel filter 2nd oild change air filter and a couple of TSbs done after being told it would be about 500. 00 I was told the bill is 750. 00 After some haggeling it was 550. 00 of course with the bumper to bumper gone it will only see the inside of my shop from now on.

Actually, I haven't changed mine yet; however, I did change the fluid on a fellow TDR member's '03 3500 SRW about 3 months ago. I re-used the gasket without using any kind of sealer on it. Since then, he has towed his big Hitchhiker 5th wheel from Texas to Oregon and across the northern US and Canada to Nova Scotia. He is currently in Newfoundland... no leaks or seeping!

You have to use a FULL synthetic, but as long as it meets the specs, it does not have to be Mopar. There are several other brands out there that meet spec and cost less than have as much.

There was no indication shown on the invoice of the type of lube used. It just says 7 quarts 5102232AA *LUBRICANT $19. 12 per quart totalling $133. 84; with an additional $111. 15 for labor.



My complaint about my truck pulling to the right is rebutted with, 'HAS NORMAL SLIGHT DRIFT TO RIGHT. '

The SOB's should have to wear masks, I pit in Amsoil & a little bit of high temp silicone on the original gasket. 50 k & no leaks, will change again before we get winter which will not be too long. Will be drilling holes in the ice to catch trout by Nov. 15

While I don't agree, that is the going rate. Mine was about $300 to do both rears.
