Hey guys,

Its time for me to change the rotors on the truck.

I have a problem though, I cant fined a Craftsman socket to fit the axle/hub nut at the local Sears.

Does anyone out know what the heck size that nut is? I seem to remember something like a 44mm or 46mm?

Doug.

thanks.

Sorry, couldnt find it.

I went through this on my wife's car. The local Napa sold axle nut sockets but couldnt find data on what size I needed either. So they agreed to let me buy a few and return the ones that didn't fit.

Only thing I could find is the torque specs (for my 99 2500 4x4) ...

axle nut 175 ft/lbs

bearing bolts 125 ft/lbs

If all else fails try what I did.

I used a Craftsman 1 11/16 on mine. BTW, with 70K miles on the clock, I had to grind a flat spot and drill a hole in one side of the nut and hit it with an air chiesel to relieve the tension so I could get it off. :{ Broke an 18" breaker bar before trying that. I sprayed the nuts every morning and every night with penetrant for a week before trying it. So buy new nuts from the dealer before you start!

Good luck!

I couldn't locate the right size so I bought a 1 3/4" and it was a little big, but it got the nut off without rounding off the edges.

To get it off i pulled the cotter pin, put the socket on my impact wrench and cranked away. Took the wrench a minute to break it free but it did.
