4x4 Help

I think my truck is stuck in 4 wheel drive. I had a terrible squeek from the left front tire when turning slow in either direction accompanied by a wobble in the steering wheel. Now the squeek stopped but the wobble is still there. I pulled the tire and don't see anything obvious. I am guessing the 4x4 drops the front ds in the t case? Any tests to g\help determine what is going on would be greatly appriciated. Truck is an 04. 5 3500 DRW LWB Crew Cab w 6sp.

It's not the 4WD system, it's your front axle u-joints.

Great, thats what i thought but when the squeek stopped i started thinking of other possible issues.

yeah i keep hearing that but at 1800 plus verses 225 for a new shaft... . I think I will just do a shaft for right now. I want the hubs but they are seriously not in the budget.

it will cost you that for the repairs on the hubs u joints etc.
plus save wear on the front drive shaft and diff

you probably don't have a center disconect, should get better milage also,

Jack up the driver's side front tire - try and spin the tire. If you can, its not stuck in 4WD.

I'm pretty sure that you have an axle u-joint that is worn out.

Pull the shaft out yourself and take it to a driveline shop. They can install the new joint for you.
