I had to put my truck in 4x4 the other day, and since then the 4x4 light on the dash is blinking on and off. It doesn't do it all the time though, mostly when I am cruising at a steady speed. It is not in 4wd when it does this. If I put it in 4x4, the light stays on like it's supposed to. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's out of 4X4 in that the front axle is not locked? Sounds like the fork on the CAD moved over just far enough to lightly release the switch. Look under the right side rear part of the front axle. That round thing hanging off of the rear of the front axle is the vacuum motor CAD assembly. Search CAD for plenty of reading...

I'm ALWAYS messing wit the danged thing - I came up with this:

1. Pull the vacuum yoke off, move over one spot so the right (2WD) line connects to the left motor port (4WD).

2. With truck running in '2WD lever' you SHOULD have steady 4WD light.

3. Pull the vacuum - the light should go out because spring pressure in the switch will push the motor shaft right (toward 2WD).

4. If NOT the switch is bad or the yoke is jamming.

5. Go to the other extreme: left hose on right port. With '4WD lever' you should NEVER have light - even down the road.

6. If you do the switch is lighting itself - replace.

Hope this helps - it beats buying a vacuum tester pump!

Would love to have a good electric (linear motor?) drive that could interface with the switch and be completely weathertight!
