I have searched the forum and havent seen a very specific answer. I have a 02 (old body style) 2500 and the light on the dash doesw not work. dodge sold me a switch that is wrong because there is only one switch on the case that is a 2-wire directly over the linkage housing on the t-case. that is the only switch on the t-case. now from what I have read the 4x4 light should come on when I turn the key on. which it does not. so does this mean that the bulb is bad? this is driving me crazy. thanks in advance. Dan

Dan, I'd check the bulb first. Always go with the cheapest thing. If not that, I would have to think that the switch would be bad, but it could also be the wiring. Good luck tearing the cluster out!

I'd have to double check it to be sure, but I think if you turn on the key while pressing the odometer reset, you'll trigger the cluster to do a self test. I know it tests the gauges, and I think it illuminates the lights too. That'll tell you if the bulb is bad.

all of the other lights come on when it is keyed on, so I would assume that it would also. well find out im going to the dealer now

Is it going into 4 wheel drive? I had the same problem about a month ago. I put the truck in 4 wheel and the light wouldn't come on so i tried to make a turn on dry pavement to see if it was actually in 4 wheel witch it wasn't. I crawled under the truck and found a connection on the front axle on the passenger side was off. I reconnected the plug and all was good. Im not sure but I think it was the actuator plug its a black plug about an inch or so wide and there are two prongs on the axle it connects to with those tiny little claps that go over each prong. Hope this helps.

Sounds like he doesn't have CAD on his truck. So as long as one of the 4wd modes is selected with the lever he'll have 4wd. There's nothing else that needs to happen since everything else is connected full-time. All the light does on those trucks is tell the driver if the lever is in 4-hi or 4-low.

correct co cad. The dash check works thanks! hyold the button and turn the key on. I did find out however that the bulbs are led's that are soldered into the circuit board, but the cluster looks to be covered by my extended warranty. so I will be doing to madison chrystler and having them replace it. thanks for the help.
