Over the last couple weeks I rebuilt almost my entire front end and in the process had the front axle completely out from under the truck. I reinstalled everything and thought everything was fine and didnt even check the 4x4. Well this weekend I was in some wet grass and put it in 4 just to keep from spinning but it didnt work... putting it in 4 low resulted in 2 low... When I put the axle back in I hooked up the electrical connection and the two vacuum lines Any ideas? I painted the axle so I'm going to pull the vacuum lines off to make sure no paint got in there... Thanks in advance for the help 12Vmudder

Sorry to hear that. First verify you have vacuum at the end of vacuum lines. Hopefully you got the axle on pass side in correctly and you won't have to remove that side to check it. But you're an old hand at removing the hubs by now. . right?

Good luck,

Dave

12v mudder - I would check the vacuum switch on transfer case. When they go, it just happens. One trick is to see if your A/C / Heat will cycle the doors when you change positions for heat / cool floor etc. That system runs on the vacuum as well.

You also can pull the vacuum connector off, and with truck running and a "trusted person" inside have them switch 2wd to 4wd. You should have vacuum on one of the 2 lines on the connector. That is what actuates the quill shaft on the R side of the axle to engage the axle shafts.

Good Luck,

Luke
