i HAD AN OLDER POWER WAGON AND IT ALSO MADE A CLUNKING NOISE... TURNED OUT TO BE THE DRIVE CHAIN IS LOOSE.....

Can you be a little more specific? Are you driving in snow down there in Florida? Does it make that noise in 4 WD on the dry pavement? When making turns? Going straight? Do you drive on the beach? Mud? Are your tires all the same size and brand? Inquiring minds want to know. We'll be glad to help.

it does it in the sand and in the mud. All the tires are the same size and brand(35-12. 50) i even tried disconecting the linkage and putting it in 4WD and it still does it driving stright , turning any way i go. :{

If you've lifted your truck, it could be the front driveshaft hitting the crossmember. Or, maybe a bad U-joint. Just a guess.
 
I would definitley be looking at the front drive shaft cv at the transfer case or the u-joint at the front differential. Sometimes the mounting hardware for that front u-joint has been known to loosen up.

if i put it in 4L i can go under the truck and turn the driveshaft and there is a grinding sound. At first i thought it might not be in all the way so i disconnected the linkage and put it in by hand and it still does it . There should be a double splined shaft in there that i think might be split. what do you guys think????
